The average lifespan of a sump pump is around ten years. Once your sump pump begins approaching ten years of age and experiencing frequent repairs, you will likely need to have Essig replace your sump pump with a newer one.
Any time your sump pump will not turn on and run, unfortunately, you have a major issue on your hands. There are actually a number of reasons that your sump pump may be experiencing power issues including the float switch being stuck or broken, a jammed impeller, a potential loose electrical connection, a burnt motor, or your sump pump has just plain hit the end of its lifespan. Whatever the case, if your pump is older and not running, you may need to think about Pro Sump Pump Installation and Replacement Services from Essig.
Contrarily, if your sump pump is always running, and never seems to turn off, this is also an issue! This is normally due to a float switch issue, which will need professional assistance from Essig. If your sump pump is not turning on at all or running constantly, repairs can be possible, but you may need to start thinking about replacing the machine completely.
Any time your sump pump is making loud noises such as grinding, banging, rattling, or vibrating, you are almost guaranteed to have a serious issue. These noises are indicative of a problem with your sump pump and will require a diagnosis from Essig in which you may want to consider fully replacing the sump pump all together.
Irregular cycling of your sump pump can occur for a multitude of reasons such as a broken float switch or the float valve being too low. No matter the case, irregular cycling, particularly in conjunction with any of the other listed symptoms, is never a good sign and will need to be addressed by plumbing professionals at Essig as soon as possible!
Debris can naturally flow and build up in your sump pump, leading to a pretty severe clog over time! Clogs can damage the impeller fan in your sump pump which will detrimentally affect your system. Additionally, the pump line hose can also become clogged with sediment and debris, causing major issues for your sump pump. No matter the issue, you will need to consult with Essig about repair and possibly replacement options.
Unfortunately, many homeowners get taken advantage of by inadequate plumbers around the area, leading to incorrect installation of their home’s sump pump system. If there is no water in the pit but your sump pump is still running, your sump pump was likely installed incorrectly and will need to be corrected and potentially even replaced by the plumbing experts that you can trust at Essig.

Essig did an outstanding job! We needed a new main water shutoff, new hot/cold supply lines, new drain lines and a new water heater for our 1960's home. We opted for a tankless water heater and it is delivering excellent hot water. Our project coordinator Joel was very knowledgeable and listened carefully to our requests advising us with his expertise. The plumbers who did the work were creative, hard working and accurate (Nate, Tom, Avion). When the work was done, everything worked great! Thank you Essig for a job well done.

It can be a very good idea to have a backup sump pump for times of crisis. If your home experiences a flood, your backup sump pump will take action and could prevent a lot more damage than what may already occur, saving you a lot of valuable time, stress, and money.
The average life expectancy of a sump pump is typically around 10 years. Have a Essig expert perform maintenance on your sump pump at least once a year to significantly lengthen your pump’s lifespan.
It is normal for your sump pump to run continuously. Sump pumps run, or “kick on,” as they are needed. So, if you notice it seems like your pump is running all of the time, there is a reason for it. It’s important to note though, if you suspect your sump pump is running more than necessary, or any time you notice any abnormal behavior from your pump, call Essig to have it serviced. You can never be too cautious!
No, your sump pump will most likely not work if the power is out in your home. Most sump pumps require electrical power to operate. You can however, install certain devices like a battery backup unit which will operate a secondary pump using battery power.
Yes, you will periodically need to clean your sump pump. While sump pumps don’t have filters, you will still need to clean their openings or screens from time to time – at least every few months. Additionally, if necessary, you may need to oil the pump’s parts. It’s important to have an expert at Essig perform yearly maintenance on your sump pump as well. At this time, they will be happy to help clean your sump pump, as well.
