A customer called because his water heater was leaking from the bottom and he knew that meant he needed a replacement. When you see signs of a water heater leaking, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done at that point to repair it and you would greatly benefit from replacing it.
If any of the following apply to you, or your water heater, it may be time for you to start thinking about a replacement, too:
• The size of your family has changed: Why is this important? Well, the more people you having using the water in your home, the bigger, more powerful you need your heater to be. If you have less people in the home than you did before, it’s probably better for you money-wise to get a newer, smaller one.
• Age of your system: The life expectancy of a water heater is between 8-12 years. If yours falls within that, or is older, it probably doesn’t have much oomph left in it.
• Loud noises: If you hear anything strange coming from the unit, that means there’s sediment built up on the tank which isn’t good.
• Tank suffering from corrosion: This is another one of those things where it can’t be repaired.
