A handy addition, but hard to plumb
Most kitchens usually only have one sink – whether it’s single bowl or double bowl. A nice addition to a kitchen, especially if you have more than one cook in your family, is a sink on your kitchen island.
This second sink, though smaller, is easy to use and access, and is also out of the way of the main prepping area. If you’re hosting a holiday or party at your house and need to use the sink for many different things, having another one is extremely handy.
Despite their benefits, plumbing an island sink can be challenging. Plumbing vents are used to carry water and waste through the pipes at the right speed. Regular kitchen sinks have vents that are hidden in the wall that are connected to the drain. Because islands are generally in the middle of the kitchen, not near another sink or the wall, the venting has to be done a little differently.
This is why it’s a good idea to have a plumber come and check it out for you. Call Essig Plumbing and Cooling today, and we’d be happy to help!
