Older models are susceptible to leakage behind the walls of your bathroom. This can result in a great deal of structure damage that can be extremely expensive to repair. If you notice any signs of a leak, such as wallpaper or paint starting to peel, you should consider having your shower replaced as quickly as possible. You may need to think about it anyway if you are constantly having to deal with erratic operation, such as alternating streams of cold and hot water. A good rule of thumb is that if taking a shower starts to feel like more of a chore than a pleasure, you probably will want to consider a replacement.
