How to Avoid Commercial Plumbing Issues

A plumbing issue can cause significant problems in a commercial setting. Your company can have a sewage-disposal issue, and you might have to suspend operations to fix a broken fixture. If your company is closed for several hours, your business may lose thousands of dollars.

At Essig Plumbing & Heating, we care about local businesses and want to help ensure you avoid common plumbing issues with these preventative measures.

Assess the Exterior and Interior Plumbing Components

  • Your building’s plumbing system has an extensive collection of pipes. Many of the pipes are carefully hidden for safety reasons.

  • A plumbing professional can help you conduct preventative maintenance.

  • The plumbing expert will inspect the complex network of pipes and drains. The plumber will suggest repairs if the plumbing system has signs of wear and tear.

Look for Leaks

  • Check the exposed pipes and faucets. Small drops of water can cause considerable problems.

  • Look for water damage and small puddles of water.

  • You might see water stains near the paneling.

  • The problem will expand if the leak is not repaired promptly.

Inspect the Pipes

  • Look for signs of discoloration and corrosion.

  • Check for yellow stains on steel pipes.

  • Green stains can indicate corrosion on copper and brass pipes.

  • Corrosion can damage the pipes and the connectors.

Make Sure the Plumbing Fixtures Are Secure

  • The faucets should be securely attached to their proper location in the building. A loose fixture is a safety hazard.

  • Gently push the plumbing fixtures to check the stability.

  • Pipe connections can break if the fixtures are not securely attached.

Check the Water Pressure

  • Low water pressure is a sign of clogs and leaks.

  • The pipes will need to be cleaned if there is a buildup of sediment and other debris.

  • A plumber can remove the faucet aerator and professionally handle the job.

Make Sure the Drains Are Functioning Properly

  • The water should flow smoothly in the plumbing system. There should not be any loud noises in the pipes.

  • It should create a swirl pattern. There should not be any bubbles in the drain.

  • Loud noises can indicate a problem with the plumbing fixtures.

Test the Toilets

  • Check the internal components and the flushing mechanism.

  • Look for water leaks around the toilets.

  • Call a plumber if the toilets show signs of wear and tear.

Look for Visible Damage

  • Carefully look for cracks in the tiles and seals.

  • Inspect the caulking.

  • A tiny crack can expand, and the repairs can be very costly.

If you have some plumbing knowledge, you may be able to handle some necessary preventative measures. For more complex plumbing issues, you will need a professional plumber.
